When a person with COVID-19 coughs or sneezes they release droplets of infected fluid. Most of these drops fall on nearby objects and objects, such as desks, tables, or telephones. People can get COVID-19 by touching a dirty area or objects, and then touching the eyes, nose, or mouth. If they stand in a 1-meter position of a person with COVID-19 they can catch it by breathing in droplets that have been coughed up or released by it. In other words, COVID-19 spreads in the same way as the flu. Most people who are infected with COVID-19 develop mild symptoms and recover.

However, some get very sick and may need to be hospitalized. The risk of serious illness increases with age: people over the age of 40 appear to be at greater risk than those under 40. People with weakened immune systems and people with conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and lung disease are also at risk of serious illness.
